OnTime Tip: User Permissions by Project

I've decided to start a series of posts for OnTime Tips & Tricks and best practices.  This is the first in the series and it focuses on user permissions by project.

We often have customers who's OnTime users have different roles on different projects.  For example, it's very common for a person to be a developer on one project and a tester on a different project.  Such a user would then need a different set of privileges on each project based on their role on that project.

In OnTime, you can set this up by creating multiple security roles. For example, you can create a role called “Tester in Corporate Web Site”.  This role would then be given limited permissions that are appropriate for a tester and limited to just the “Corporate Web Site” projects.  Another security role, “Developer in Intranet Site” can be created with yet another set of privileges for a different project tree branch.  A single user can then be assigned to participate in both of these roles.

Since an unlimited number of security roles can be created and a user can be granted any number of roles, each user can have the exact set of privileges needed for each project.

Of course the same functionality is also available in the Web version of OnTime, but I've chosen the Windows version for the screenshots.
