WOW! The demand for this service has been incredible. Sending large files on the Internet is apparently a big problem that is faced by most everyone. By the second day after launch, TransferBigFiles.com was using up more bandwidth each day than all of our other web sites combined (axosoft.com, the store, blogs, forums, etc.) use in each month! By the end of the first week, we already had over 10,000 downloads through the site. At this rate of growth, our little weekend project is growing quickly into a mature product offering.
Unfortunately, with the growth, we also had some growing pains. Some people have already abused the site to try and use it as a 1 to many filesharing medium for copyrighted material. To prevent this type of abuse, we've had to make some minor modifications. For example, we added a restriction on the number of times each file can be downloaded (this will prevent people from posting copyrighted material on the site and posting a public link). We also created a page that allows users to report abuse of the site. Additionally, we now have a management console where we can easily block files that are in violation of the Terms of Use.
We've also added some public statistics right on the front page of the site for those of you who are wondering about the traffic. The stats are updated every hour automatically.
