The feedback on OnTime 2006 Beta 1 has been amazing. Users tend to really love the new functionality, power and flexibility provided by inherited project settings, enhanced workflow, custom reports, field templates, required fields, improved security and other new features.
We're Adding More New Stuff!
OnTime 2006 Beta 2 adds even more new functionality. Take a look at what's new:
- Email Conversations - Now you can log all email conversations about a defect, feature or task in the OnTime system. This new powerful feature allows for new issues to be raised from email with the ability for each OnTime user to easily reply to the conversation thread and have all of that email conversation neatly organized for each item.

With this new Email Conversation feature, OnTime can easily act as a simple HelpDesk tool or IT Ticket Tracking system.
- New Time Tracking (Work Log) Feature - OnTime 2006 Beta 2 adds the ability to log time worked by any user on a given defect, feature or task. With the click of a button, or as part of the workflow, OnTime can also automatically update the "Actual Work" on a given item using the sum of all the work that was logged on the item. Customizable Work Types allow users to easily mark work as Billable, non-billable or any other type they create.

- New Dependent Pick-List, Multi-Select, Checkbox, HTML and Text Custom Field Types - Wow! This feature is really awesome. While some of our competitors don't believe in having custom fields in a bug tracking application (cough-jo-cough-el), we strongly disagree! In fact, OnTime has had the ability to track custom fields since 2004 and in OnTime 2006, there are 4 new custom-field types:
Dependent Pick Lists - With the new dependend pick list capability, you can easily define related pick list types who's values will depend on the selection of another pick list. For example, having two pick lists such as Product and Version is common, where version might be dependent on which product is selected. Rather than stopping at relating just 2 pick list types together, OnTime supports unlimited number of dependent picklists!
Multi-Select Pick Lists - Sometimes you need to have the ability of selecting multiple items out of a pick list, such as which Operating Systems this particular defect applies to. Now you can!
Check Boxes - Check boxes allow for a simple on/off bit to be set for each item that has one or more check boxes defined.
HTML & Text Fields - Long text fields, such as HTML text boxes (with formatting) and simple Text boxes are also now supported in OnTime 2006.

And of course, all the other custom field types (such as numbers, dates, money, decimal, small text, etc.) are still supported in 2006.
- New Related Items Capability - The new related items functionality in OnTime 2006 allows for defects, features and tasks to all have the ability to be related to one-another using relationship types which can be custom defined. You can even use the multi-item edit menu to relate multiple items at the same time. When you duplicate an item, or copy it from defect to feature (or vice versa) an automatic relation can also be created to indicate that these items are duplicates of each-other.

- Perfoce SCM Support - We've also added a plugin for Perforce SCM support. This adds to the SourceGear Vault and VSS Support we already announced with Beta 1.
- Enhanced Look for OnTime 2006 Web - The UI changes in the web are minor, but noticeable. We've improved the menu and given the web a cleaner look. For release, we plan to do even more and possibly provide an easy way for each user to have their own look-and-feel style based on a different CSS file.
With the exception of Perforce SCM Integration, all the new features listed above are also available in the OnTime 2006 Web product as well.
Plus there are lots of bug fixes since Beta 1 and lot of other cool little features, too many to list. So grab your copy of OnTime 2006 Beta 2 (it's now open to the public and free for single-user installs). Let us know what you think.
