Axosoft OnTime 2007 Logos, Editions, Hosting & Pricing

UPDATED: The pricing and edition information in this post is outdated.  Please see this post to see the new pricing information for OnTime 2007.

Just to be clear, we're still a ways away from the release of OnTime 2007.  It's scheduled for Q1 of '07, but there are some details that we can start to share today, so here it goes...

OnTime 2007 Product Logo Revealed

The OnTime 2007 product logos representing each of the different editions will be...

We hope you like them.  We went through about 50 design iterations before the new box emerged.

Three Different Editions

With the release of OnTime 2007, we're going to offer 3 different editions of OnTime:

  • OnTime Standard Edition - This version will contain all the core functionality of what makes OnTime great: tracking defects, features, tasks and (new to V7) incidents.  You'll be able to create filters, users, run reports and even enforce your development process through a workflow.  The target audience for this edition is teams of 1 to 20 team members.
  • OnTime Professional Edition - For larger organizations that have multiple teams, each with their own development process and different sets of custom fields, the OnTime Professional Edition will meet their needs by adding unlimited field templates, workflows, alerts (new to V7) and the full project dashboard.  The target audience for this edition is teams of anywhere from 10 to 100 team members.
  • OnTime Enterprise Edition - For even larger organizations where complex deployments, user training and custom reports are all necessities, the OnTime Enterprise Edition is designed to meet their needs.  The target audience for this edition is teams of anywhere from 50 to 2,500 members.

Hosting OnTime 2007

One of the biggest motivating factors for OnTime 2007 is eliminating setup and implementation barriers. We think we've accomplished that with our complete re-write of OnTime 2007 Web.  Since it now provides a rich AJAX-based user experience, we're investing heavily in our hosting infrastructure to meet the anticipated demand.  I'll discuss our data center upgrades in a later blog post.

Essentially, OnTime hosted will provide a similar, if not superior, experience to having it installed at your own facility.  Best of all, with the new hosting investments we have made, you can be up and running with OnTime 2007 Web in less than 60 seconds!

Pricing

So what about pricing?  The great news here is that for many customers, pricing will be as much as 25% LOWER than before with OnTime 2007 Standard Edition.  On the other hand, prices are increasing for OnTime 2007 Professional and Enterprise editions due to added functionality, a different sales process, included services and training that we are providing to meet the needs of bigger customers.

We're also eliminating the Web, Windows and VS.NET specific licenses and moving to an all mixed-mode licensing structure where all users will have the ability to use any client type they wish.

And finally, we're providing a 5-User Starter pack at a substantial discount in each of Standard, Professional and Enterprise lines that will eliminate another barrier to entry for smaller teams with tighter budgets.

The following pricing chart provides all the details of the different editions and pricing for each:

As you may have noticed, the single-user edition will remain free and we're now introducing a free single-user hosted edition.

For a quick pricing example, to figure out the price for 8 users, you would first start with the 5-User Starter pack for the edition you are interested in, then add 3 additional users at the per-user cost.  So 8 users for Standard would cost $842 ($395 + 3 x $149 = $842) for installed or $84 per month for hosted ($39 + 3 x $15 = $84).

Of course, we still have a few months before OnTime 2007 is finally released, so don't hesitate to let us know what you think of the new pricing model.

What About Existing Customers?

There are a few things existing customers need to know:

  • If your maintenance is current at the time OnTime 2007 comes out
    • Your upgrade to OnTime 2007 will be free
    • You will have an opportunity to pick whichever edition of OnTime 2007 you want
    • If you are currently using OnTime 2006 Small Team Edition, you will be able to switch to any edition you want, however, if you go with Professional or Enterprise, there will still be an upgrade charge associated with your 11th user (just like there is today).  If you choose OnTime 2007 Standard Edition, you can upgrade to any number of users based on the $149 per user price (without any additional fees).
  • If you don't have maintenance or your maintenance lapses before OnTime 2007 comes out
    • You should get or renew maintenance now :-)
    • There will likely be a 50% discount to upgrade to OnTime 2007, but getting maintenance today will make it significantly less expensive and increase your options.

We're extremely enthusiastic about the upcoming release of OnTime 2007 and your participation and feedback is essential to making it a success.

Thank you. It sounds like you have listened to small business customers regarding the 5-user pricing. I am impressed with that.

I look forward to seeing OnTime 2007 in operation. Good luck with the completion of the development.

Alex.

It appears to me that the Enterprise Edition has just two features that are not available with the Professional Edition (aside from the extra Customer Portal licenses and the included training).

Is there any other difference between the Professional and Enterprise editions that makes the latter more suitable for larger teams? Are there performance issues when using the Professional Edition with more than 100 users?

I guess I would like to see you offer site licenses in addition to per-user pricing.

Lane, great question. You are correct in the differences between Professional and Enterprise. At least, for now. Although the number of differences is small, the impact is raltively large and the differences will get bigger over time.

Performance for all 3 versions should be similar. Therefore, it's possible to have 1,000 users and go with OnTime 2007 Standard if that version provides everything you need. However, what we have found is that larger organizations really value training and services that we plan to include as part of OnTime Enterprise and its maintenance.

The new 2007 products look great! One thing that I don't see any information on is something like the current Enterprise Server add on, which is strangely difficult to find info on currently.

Will that similar functionality be available? Will the windows and VS clients be able to access the database through an IIS application?

Thanks

John, we will very likely offer something similar to the current web services product (poorly name OnTime Enterprise Server), but the name will likely change to something else.

I just recently purchased the 5-user Small Team license. I also purchased the service agreement (1 year). So what version will I be able to upgrade to?

Brian, as indicated above, If you are currently using OnTime 2006 Small Team Edition and you have maintenance, you will be able to switch to any edition you want, however, if you go with Professional or Enterprise, there will still be an upgrade charge associated with your 11th user (just like there is today). If you choose OnTime 2007 Standard Edition, you can upgrade to any number of users based on the $149 per user price (without any additional fees).

Hamid, just to make sure that I understand properly. I have a 5-user OnTime 2006 Small Team Edition with a maintenance agreement. What would be the cost to switch to the Professional or Enterprise edition? And, I'm not adding any users(still going to use 5). If I follow what you are saying, I wouldn't to pay more for the switch.

Daniel, correct. You wouldn't pay for the upgrade to OnTime Pro, but when you want to add your 6th user, here's what happens:

If you choose (from a 5-User Small Team Edition):

- Standard, you just pay the $149 for your 6th user
- Pro, you pay a $250 fee + $249 for your 6th user
- Enterprise, you pay a $500 fee + $349 for your 6th user

If you choose (from a 10-User Small Team Edition):

- Standard, you just pay the $149 for your 11th user
- Pro, you pay a $500 fee + $249 for your 11th user
- Enterprise, you pay a $1000 fee + $349 for your 11th user

The fees for adding your 6th or 11th user are similar to the current fees for switching OnTime Small Team to an OnTime Pro Edition.

One important thing to keep in mind is that if you choose the Standard Edition, there is no longer a user limit, whereas before, the Small Team was limited to only 10 users.

So for companies who choose OnTime Standard Edition, their prices will go down significantly from before (around 25% price reduction).

Can you comment on whether the SCM integrtion (specifically for Subversion) is being extended in any way for OnTime 2007 compared with what is available in OnTime 2006? Many thanks!

Dylan, we have no plans of extending the SCM integration for OnTime 2007 as of this time. We haven't had a lot of requests for extending functionality. Instead, we've had a lot of requests for supporting other SCM systems. Send your suggestions to support@axosoft.com. They make sure it gets into our queue.
