Reporting in OnTime

The kind of reports that we have in OnTime have produced some questions recently from our users.  Right now our reports fall into six categories:

  • Defect
    • These reports focus on different aspects of defects:  as a list, in a more detailed paragraph report, by user, by status, by estimated/actual time, and fixed/found
  • Feature
    • Similar to Defects
  • Task
    • As a list of tasks or as a more detailed list of tasks
  • Incident
    • By list, detailed list, escalation level, and different periods of time
  • Project Summary
    • Two different charts showing project data, and a summary report that gives a detailed summary of each project
  • Work Log Reports
    • A list of worklogs (time entries)

This has led me to wonder what kind of other reports users would find useful when using the OnTime application.  A request I have been asked more than once is a report that will show a user's currently assigned Defects, Features, Tasks, and Incidents--all in one report.  This would be a great report to implement down the road.

So now I'd like to ask the Axosoft community:

What reports would you like to see included in future versions of OnTime?

Burn up/Burn down charts for stories and defects would be nice.

I would like to see a report that combines both defects and features but only shows the pertinent fields in a summary format (ie, 1 line per defect/feature)

I would also like to see the reports not show LARGE TEXT fields in several columns.  See my recently email to support@axosoft.com.  All LARGE TEXT fields should go at the bottom.

Also would like to see the default report set when right clicking on a defect or feature be customizable.  This should not be difficult to do.

Sincerely

A report that lists the details about issues, defects, changes and tasks completed, from within a time frame specified by the user, with option of specifying other fields such as total time opened, item number. Not just a count, but with an itemised description

A report that lists the details about issues, defects, changes and tasks opened, from within a time frame specified by the user

A report that lists all open items, by order of priority in priority order rather than alphabetical, with a count for each priority type

A report that can list items assigned against a team member, and the number of days it has been assigned against them

ok.. been looking at the reports recently and having a go with custom reports.  I think there are some basic reports missing 'out of the box' from OnTime:

Incidents by CustomerName

Incidents by CompanyName

I customised the Incidents by month report to get these as it was nice to see the bar chart.

Total time spent by CustomerName for Incidents

Total time spent by CompanyName for Incidents

These are a little more tricky as they would require using the Work logs table and the incidents table, but they would allow you to analyse how much time your staff is specding on a particular customer.  This is useful when you charge customers for a yearly support contract and you can see whether you need to up the amount next year due to the amount of support given in the previous year.

Worklogs grouped by date only which filter properly (see my forum post).

This would be great for timesheets.

I would  like to see a defect chart that shows  3 or 5 day moving averages for  projects.. That would be very useful !

I would like to see comparative and measurement type reports. For example; show the average amount of time taken to resolve defects by severity/impact and compare different severity/impact resolution times. This would be very helpful when calculating incident resolution times for SLAs (we would be silly to offer a resolution time of 4 hours for high impact defects if our average is in fact 8 hours).

I have looked into the reports available with a view to modifying one or two to suit these requirements but the interface doesn't SEEM to offer anything that would allow me to do this.

How about scrum-style burndown charts for projects, based on status or estimated hours remaining on a day-to-day basis. This does require going through the bug history to generate, but would be very nice to have.

Ditto on the Burn Down report. We won't be able to use Ontime without it!
