    Performance?
Is it just me or is the performance really bad when refreshing lists?  I'm running 2008 and 2009 RC side by side (2009 copy of the DB, obviously) and things that that < 1 second in 2008 are taking 5-6 seconds in 2009.

Are you using Windows or Web?  Is this the main grid of items, or other list?  How many items in the list?  Are you using SQL 2000 or 2005?

    Windows.

Main grid (does that have a name?)

The number of items vary, depending on what I have selected on the left (customer, user, etc) but safe to say between 5 and 300 items.

    DB is Express 2005.

Dan - any thoughts on this?  Looks like I'm the only one mentioning it in the Forums.  Have you had anything in Support or Bugs?

I know you guys don't like giving time frames, but is there another RC coming?

    Re: Performance?

Sorry, I must've missed your reply.  I had tested this on my end with thousands of items in the list and I am not seeing the slowdown that you are seeing.  I've also not seen anyone else mention that 2009 is slower than 2008.  How big is your OnTime database?  Do you have any other databases being used on that sever?  I'm wondering if you are running into the memory limit of SQL Express (1 GB).

There will probably be another release some time in January.

    Re: Performance?

I am thinking it is something on my end as everyone else seems quiet on the subject.

I don't think it has anything to do with the list size as it seems to take the same amount of time if the result is a few items or hundreds of items.

The only two databases on the server are the two OT databases (2008 and 2009).  They are both around 1200 MB.  Given that and the fact that I only have 6 OT users and as of right now 4 connections to the database, I wouldn't think we were anywhere near the 1 GB buffer limit in SQLE.  Also, I would think that this would cause problems with the 2008 client/db as well, which there is none.

Where is seems to be particularly bad is having a View open in the list (mine is one called Open List that shows all non-closed Incidents, creative, I know).  Typically, I will choose different users to look at by clicking their name in the Users tab.  This is when the slowness appears, in 2008 it is < 1 second to reload the grid with the new results, in 2009 it is 5 seconds.  I have also noticed that when clicking on the tabs in the heirarchy section, there is a 5 second delay there as well, even though the grid does not reload.  It both instances, the UI is completly locked until the reload completes.

    Re: Performance?

I don't believe it is something on your end.. I see the same results?  I refreshes of grids and also saving defects takes 10 to 15 sec. when 2008 took <1 sec.  The performance of 2009 is bad.. We have 60 users and 1000's of transactions, 2008 works fine not 2009, it is very very slow.

    Jeff,

Do you happen to be using SQL Express?

    Thanks,

SQL Server 2000.  Can I send you a backup file of it or do you need me to detach it and send it.  Cause that will take sometime to find a window when no one is using it.  I can maybe move it too sql 2005 but sql express with 60 users would not happen so no we are not using sql express and never would for something like this.

I've sent a zipped backup of my database.  Let me know if you need anything else.

    Re: Performance?

    Hi Jeff,

I got your database and we are seeing the grid refresh taking 6-7 seconds on the UI level (The sprocs are about 3 seconds). My selection is on the <All Projects> Defects tab > Returning 1376 records. No filter or search criteria.

Can you send me a backup of your 2008 database please. I like to compare your database with both verisons.

I appreciate your patience and help into resolving this matter!

    Hi Computer Chip,

The file I got from you was empty? not sure what happend? Can you try resending the .bak file and please send a 2008 .bak too.

    Thanks!

    Arash
