Minor issue with editing in text boxes

The multi-line text boxes (for entering Description, Notes, Resolution etc) don't behave as expected.

If you highlight some text, it should get deleted on the next keystroke as you insert replacement text.
Instead, the textbox doesn't respond at all.

If the key that's pressed is the Delete or Backspace, the text is deleted but the caret disappears and the textbox seems to have lost input focus so it has to be clicked again before replacement text can by typed.

I know this is minor but it is rather annoying. Can it be fixed soon please?

RE: Minor issue with editing in text boxes

There are so many "minor" editing issues with the OnTime software that it warrants a wholesale replacement with a proper rich text control.  There have been several comments that the editor in the OnTime forum is better than that in the software.  A sad sad story!

I don't know how to mobilise the OnTime user community to rate this as a major issue and push AxoSoft to fix it.  I am even willing to pay more for the product if it costs AxoSoft more for a commercial .net RTF control.

I'll add that I came to the forums today just to post about this specific problem, because it's been annoying me so much recently. I'm happy to see i'm not the only one bothered by this, and I hope to see a fix.

...and I thought I was just becoming a grumpy old man worrying about small details!

    Glad to have some allies!

RE: Minor issue with editing in text boxes

I have noticed that this problem appears when users double click on a word, but what happens if you drag the mouse courser and highlight the word instead of double clicking? Do you get the same results? It seems to be working for me, but I could be wrong. Our development team is currently aware of this problem in the large text fields of OnTime.

    Thank you,

RE: Minor issue with editing in text boxes
I can confirm manually highlighting text works fine for me as well, however obviously having to do that defeats the purpose of having double-click highlight the text for you. Double-clicking to highlight text is an ingrained habit that I use across all applications.

I did this test on the "Reproduce Steps" tab in OnTime2005.

RE: Minor issue with editing in text boxes

I work in QA for our software products and hear all types of issue that clients want changed or added. Some are minor, some are huge.  But sometimes correcting a minor issue makes the biggest impact on users.   If the "powers that be" at OnTime would understand that!

Thanks, Hamid. It helps to know you are aware of this issue and plan or at least hope to replace the html editor.  Thanks!

Re: RE: Minor issue with editing in text boxes

Five months have passed since the last post on this issue, I'm using version 7.1.1 and the text editor is still broken.

Bullets, numbers and indentation apply to the whole text, not the current line as they should.

When can we expect this to be fixed once and for all?

Re: RE: Minor issue with editing in text boxes

    Hello Raviv,

I've discovered that this will be addressed in our next major release, because we have to use a different text editor, which would be a major change.

I have no information on when the next major release will be announced. If you have an Axosoft store account, you'll receive an email notification newsletter when a new version is announced.

Re: RE: Minor issue with editing in text boxes

OK, it's been 8 months. I can't tell if this is fixed in release 8 or not.

This is far more than a minor issue to us - the editing problems affect us every day (we use OnTime 2007 Windows Client). I don't think I have ever used a worse edit tool.

Beyond the simple issues like the indentation not working properly, there are just baffling problems

    1. changing the format of text on one line (from bold to not bold) causes the line above to lose its indentation
    2. No way to insert a line before a bullet point at the top of a description without removing the bullets from the entire description.
    3. If you use ctrl-enter to force a new line to try and add a new bullet or number, you frequently get stuck in a really awful mode where text selection is stuck on (like you are holding down the shift key while moving).  And there is no easy way out of this mode other than closing down OnTime.

Problem 3 is so persistent that when I just caused it in OnTime, the same problem started happening in the forum edit box.

Does this stuff just happen to us?  It really affects the usability of this product.

Tell me it is fixed in OnTime2008 and we'll upgrade tomorrow.

    Mark
