    Performance Problem

    Hello,

we've just bought a starter pack of OnTime for testing since 1 month. There are about 20 Projects and 30 Features in. The Features have no Attachements etc. There are only Worklogentrys, about 500 items.

The start of OnTime takes a long time, about 6 seconds. Thats ok, there is caching. Why not, we are not startig all the time..

But when we are in the app we have to wait 1-4 seconds to change from one feature to another. If we click on a feature it takes 2-4 seconds to open the dialog.

Are there any suggestions what we can do? We've tried the following: No Grouping, sort only on the ID field in the Windows App. Deactivated all Tabs we dont need. Build Indexes in the Database, ...

    Specs Workstation:
    Core Duo 2,8
    1 GB

Specs Server (only OnTime DB and Reporting Services for OnTime Reports):
    dual Xeon 3 Ghz
    4 GB RAM

    regards
    Andreas

    Re: Performance Problem

Would it be possible if you could tell us which OnTime version and build number are you working with? To locate the build of OnTime, in the application you can click on Help and About to get the exact build. We have experienced some performance problems in the OnTime 2007 windows client Version 7.0.0.7133. If you are working with this particular version of the OnTime 2007, then please be sure to upgrade to the most recent release of OnTime 2007 Version 7.0.2.7191 which can be obtained from the link below.

    OnTime 2007 download page;

Can you tell us if you are working with the OnTime web or windows client? If you are working with the OnTime web edition, please make sure that your using a supported web browser such as Firefox 1.5 + or IE 7.

    Thank you,

    Re: Performance Problem

    Hello Andreas,

Are you connecting directly to the SQL server using the SQL connection method to the OnTime 2007 windows clients? Are all users experiencing this performance problem?

Please take a look at the SQL server and let’s find out if the server is running out of local resources such as CPU usage and Physical Memory. Verify that the SQL server is not generating any warnings or errors in the local event viewer under the application and system logs.

If that’s not the case, then you may want to update the statistics of your OnTime database by following the necessary instructions under the following FAQ.

Updating OnTime database statistics to boost query performance

    Re: Performance Problem

    Hello Dragan,

thank you for the quick reply. Yes all three users have the performance problem. We all connect through the SQL connection method to the server.

I've allready checked the SQL Server. The Server has nothing to do. I made a trace and the only querries are about ontime (three users) and reporting services (for the same three people, reporting from ontime db). Statistics, Indezis are up to date.

    regards

    Re: Performance Problem

    Andreas,

Would it be possible if I could take a look at this performance problem that you have been experiencing with OnTime over a gotomeeting remote session? We should be able to pin point the performance problem in your local environment. Please let me know.

    Thank you,

    Re: Performance Problem

    Hello Dragan,

i've created the rest of the missing indexes and ontime is really fast now. Maybe you consider this for future releases. On a small DB it does not matter because SQL Server is always using a table scan due the cost of an index. But the bigger the db grows the cost of table scans will raise and indexes will be used... And Performance will dramaticlly increase...

    regards

    Andreas

    Re: Performance Problem

    Hello Andreas,

Is there a way that we can possibly get a backup copy of your OnTime database? I would like to present this to my development team to see if we can implement this in the near future of OnTime releases. You can use www.transferbigfiles.com and DraganM@axosoft.com as the recipient of the file to send us the database.

    Thank you,

    Re: Performance Problem

    Hello,

sorry for the late respond, but I was busy the last time.

Yes, it would not be a problem to get a copy of my database but I dont think it will help you. Its cause we are working a different way with ontime. We only use the features with the worklog function. Because of this additional stats and indices are only on this tables which are querried in our scenario. The second is that we have a SQL Server Reporting Solution to get worklog data from this tables.

But I think indices would be nice and needed in the ontime suit. Of course in small databases you do not recognize a difference due the cost of an index. But in bigger dbs it would be times faster.

    You should really consider it.

    regards

    Andreas
