    Email Notifications from OnTime 2007

Since we've updated to 2007 email notifications have stopped working.

Can anyone suggest where to start troubleshooting?

The "Send Test Email" button in the "Email Notification Services" seems to work when you look at the test results - problem is, the email never arrives.

I understand these types of notifications have nothing to do with the Email Service, that polls a mailbox looking for items from which Bugs, etc can be created.

    Any ideas, anyone??

Re: Email Notifications from OnTime 2007

Please make sure that “Suppress All Notifications” feature is not selected under Tools > Email Notifications > Email Configuration window.

Check the database for any recent exceptions that could be related to the email notification problem under the Help Tab > Exception Viewer.

You can also check the email logs on the mail server to see if the email messages are properly being relayed over to the SMTP mail server from OnTime.

    Thank you,

Re: Email Notifications from OnTime 2007

    Ar - the Exception Viewer!

It is showing an exception even though the test email says all was ok. The exception viewer says the Axosoft.Common.Smtp.dll file couldn't be found.

    The system is looking in C:\Program Files\Axosoft\OnTime 2007\OnTime Services\Plugins\Mail however that assembly resides in C:\Program Files\Axosoft\OnTime 2007\OnTime Windows\Plugins\Mail

I am gonig to attempt to move it manually, to see what difference that makes, but will this mean I have to do this manual workaround on all machines?

Re: Email Notifications from OnTime 2007

The exception error message seems to be getting generated on the machine where the email services are installed.

In OnTime 2007 Version 7.0.2.7191 we have added a new smtp.dll file called; Axosoft.common.smtpclient.dll

Are you working with OnTime 2007 version 7.0.2.7191 by any chance?

If you are then please make sure that the axosoft.common.smtpclient.dll file is present under: C:\Program Files\Axosoft\OnTime 2007\OnTime Services\Plugins\Mail where the services are installed and  C:\Program Files\Axosoft\OnTime 2007\OnTime Windows\Plugins\Mail directories on the local machine where the windows clients are installed.

Also in the OnTime database under the “NotificationSettings” table, make sure that the SmtpAssembly is set to Axosoft.common.smtpclient.dll

If you are working with the OnTime 2007 version 7.0.1.7150, then please make sure that the Axosoft.Common.smtp.dll file is assigned to the SmtpAssembly and also make sure that the Axosoft.Common.smtp.dll file is present under; C:\Program Files\Axosoft\OnTime 2007\OnTime Services\Plugins\Mail and C:\Program Files\Axosoft\OnTime 2007\OnTime Windows\Plugins\Mail directories.

    Thank you,

Re: Email Notifications from OnTime 2007

    Nope - no luck there.

Even after installing the OnTime 2007 services so that the Smtp dll was in that specific location, I still get the same error.'

     Hmm?

Re: Email Notifications from OnTime 2007

What is the exact version number of OnTime 2007 that you are currently working with? To locate the exact build number go to the help tab and select about.

    Thank you,

Re: Email Notifications from OnTime 2007

    We are using version 7.0.2.7191.

I just typed a huge message explaining our setup, but have since double checked the Exception Viewer.

    It is looking for c:\program files\Axosoft\OnTime 2007\OnTime Services\Plugins\Mail\Axosoft.Common.SmtpClient.dll

Now, that assembly - Axosoft.Common.SmtpClient.dll does not reside in that path even after installing the Services on my workstation.  However a file called Axosoft.Common.Smtp.dll does!

Further to this, Axosfot.Common.SmtpClient.dll does reside in c:\program files\Axosoft\OnTime 2007\OnTime Windows\Plugins\Mail\ however the system doesn't seem to be looking there.

    Confused? I am...

Re: Email Notifications from OnTime 2007

I've just installed the windows client on the server that is running the services and noted that and older version installed (7150). I've checked another workstation and it's the same.

I will now ensure all components are the same version and I suspect the problem will go away. (I am not sure how this happened but will now resolve and let you know).

Re: Email Notifications from OnTime 2007

    Problem Solved!

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction with the different file names over the different versions.

Somehow (I suspect by installing the SDK) my machine was running the latest build - 7191 - while all others were running 7150.

Once upgradig the server (services) to 7191 email notifications are again working.

Thanks for your help - sorry if I caused undue hassle.
