Web UI Slow

    Web UI Slow
    Dear Axosoft,
     
    Recently I have installed an OnTime server with this hardware configuration:
     
    - CPU Intel Xeon 2.4 GHZ
    - RAM 1GB
     
    The software configuration is :
     
    - Win Server 2003
    - IIS 6
    - .NET 2.0
    - MSDE 2000
     
    and OnTime version is 7.0.1.7150. 
     
    In test phase I have said to use Web interface via IE 7 and Firefox /2.0 and all of my partners has said to me that is nearly impossible to use Ontime via web because the response times are very slow.
    For example on IE7 charge time for home page is about 15 sec, for edit a bug about 8-10 sec.
    On Firefox 2.0  charge time for home page is about 10 sec, for edit a bug about 5-7 sec.
     
    I have to say that we have only about 50 records, what will be happen with more records?
     
    I have stated the same phenomenon and some times the home page is not loaded, so I have to stop and press enter on the address bar , so my questions are:
     
    - Is it normal?
    - What is the advised configuration?
     
    So, I have installed in some places OnTime Windows version and the phenomenon is not present, I can say that in not a net problem.

    We had the same problem on our server (nearly identical configuration)... Web UI very slow. After upgrading from 1 to 3 gig RAM the speed improved, so it is now almost work-able depending on your patience threshold.

    Thanks for your reply,

    I'd like to have a response of Axosoft for this problem also... 

    By the way, I have verified in Computer Management --> Event Viever  --> Application and I have noticied thae is full of: Warning Error for ASP.NET 2.0.50727.0, but not for MSQLSERVER.

     Any ideas??

    A few comments on OnTime web performance:

    • The bulk of the performance issues with OnTime web is due to the javascript, HTML payload and network speeds.  The OnTime database is pretty well optimized and whether you have 50 or 500 issues won't make much of a difference.  For extremely large databases (10K+ records), there would be additional performance issues, but we're addressing those in V7.1.
    • Things that affect the Javascript and HTML payload include the optional "Dashboard" and the "Multi-Edit" menu.  So if you're experiencing unacceptably slow performance, try turning off these features.  For the dashboard, you can click the "X" and to turn off the Multi-Edit menu, go to Tools menu -> User Options.
    • It's unlikely that web server memory beyond 1GB will help increase performance much.  Although more memory on your SQL box can always help.
    • If you're seeing other ASP.NET issues, etc. you definitely want to look into those problems.

    Finally, we just announced OnTime V7.1 Beta which has a huge focus on Performance (although the bulk of the performance improvements are OnTime Windows and Remote Server focused, there are some goodies for web too).  You can read more about V7.1 beta and download it here:

    Thank you for response.

    Today i have checked the network switch: the server's cable was connected to a switch with  the speed of 100 Mbit/s, so I have changed it with one  that have 1000Mbit/s, Now the response time is really good and acceptable!!!Wink
    Now we can continue to test your product.
