    Email setup problem

My company uses Lotus Notes with Domino's for email and it's my understanding that OnTime does not support Notes. But I thought I could get it to work with my gmail account, but it isn't.  I've installed OnTime 7.1.1.7329, and the corresponding services package for email support, but I can't seem to get it going.

I've visited the Email Accounts section and selected Add Account. I entered the following info

    •  server = pop.gmail.com
    • Username = double checked as well
    • password double checked
    • email address projects.marshall@gmail.com
    • 995 for the port, which is what gmail chooses to use

When I test the settings I get the following message:

    --------------------------------

    Error

Unable to contact the POP# server, or an invalid response was recieved. The underlying exception reported: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.

     -----------------------------------------------------------------------

    (Received is misspelled btw.)

Google's help page for setting up pop access to gmail accounts is located here: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13287

     Any ideas?

    Re: Email setup problem

    Hello myoungblood,

Well, I've just spent a while trying to get an OnTime email account setup using gmail, and I keep getting the same error as you've been getting.

Had you made sure to allow POP connections from you gmail settings? Even after I allowed them, I still got the same error- but I thought it was worth mentioning that you have to enable POP within your gmail settings whenever you're using the POP connections.

I'm still looking into it, but I believe it has to do with that fact that gmail requires SSL, which we currently don't have an option for when setting up an email account within OnTime. That's the only reason I can think of as to why the gmail server would be sending an invalid response.

I'll keep investigating and perhaps come up with a solution, but in the meantime I'd have to say that OnTime email accounts are incompatible with gmail. If I have any updates I'll post them here as soon as I get them.

Also, thanks for pointing out the 'recieving' typo in the error. I'll submit it as a simple defect in our Customer Portal.

    Thank you,

OK. I'll give my hotmail account a shot too, at least until you figure this out. I hate using that account, as it's my spam account. Embarrassed

EDIT: At least I would if hotmail allowed pop3 access. Oh, well.
