email accounts not being checked at intervals

    Hello

have set up an email account to be POPed at a regular interval. Works when I click "check now" but when I leave it to it's own devices it doesn't check it..

Not used this before so don't know if I'm doing something wrong but as it works when I run it manually I don't think I am.

    Many thanks

    Matt

    Hi Matt,

I ran into this problem myself when we first started.  Make sure you installed the "services" for ontime.  You then want to go into the OnTime Services Configuration and run the email service.  To set it up, just click Load Settings, Manage OnTime Database (enter your database info), click on the OnTimeEmailService and press the green play/run button.  Save settings and you should be good to go.  You may also want to activate your alert service (if you use alerts).

Re: email accounts not being checked at intervals

Hi Ryan thanks for your reply.

Sadly this isn't the cause as I have the services installed and all running on a server. Not the machine I'm running the client on but still works when I use the test method..

Noticed that when I try and send a test notification out this says it works in the communication log window but no message ever appears at the recipient..

I'm obviously doing something wrong but can't find what it is!

    Cheers

    Update:

OK I've moved the onTime services to the same machine that the DB is running on to rule out the possibility that this machine specific.

    It's not.

Maybe I have a bug here in 2008.... I will try Beta2 and then log it as a bug as doesn't look like it's me doing something wrong.

Re: email accounts not being checked at intervals

Can you please check your event log on the machine where the services are running?  It may be a connectivity issue.  Also check the exceptions in OnTime, under Help -> Exception Viewer.

For the test email in particular, if you have it set up to use the email queue, the test email is just added in the database and that's why it would say it was successful, but the email queue service may either not be able to read that email from the database, or may not be able to send it out (common problem would be a relaying configuration issue with the SMTP server).

Re: email accounts not being checked at intervals

    Hi Dan

thanks for the reply.. I just went back to this after I got your mail and it said it had checked the mailbox a few minutes ago!!

So having it on the same box as the DB seemed to fix it.. Strange as the server it was on could see the DB fine.. Does it use any other ports for the services?

Anyway it doesn't matter where the services are running so I will leave them on the DB server.

Many thanks, going to roll out OnTime shortly, v impressed with it!

Re: email accounts not being checked at intervals

    hi all

update on this one. I changed something in the profile (mailbox and password) and now it is not being checked regularly any more. Tried creating a new profile but this is not working either...

So there is obviously something funny going on here..

Re: email accounts not being checked at intervals

    hello all,

another update, It started again! Didn't do it for an hour or so but then started POPing again! Can anyone tell me how this should work time wise? Does it always wait a certain period of time before the services query the database for what they are meant to be doing?

    Thanks

Re: email accounts not being checked at intervals

The mail accounts in OnTime have an interval you can set up to tell it how often to check the account.  I believe the default is 60 minutes.  You can go in and change that setting to have it check more often.

Re: email accounts not being checked at intervals

    Hi Dan

Thanks for the reply. It's not this interval setting. I had changed that to 10 mins to see if I could resolve the problem.

It seems to start working if you leave it long enough, just not always inside the specified time interval.

    Regards

Re: email accounts not being checked at intervals
One other thing you may want to check is if the times on the computers where the SQL is installed and where the OnTime service is installed are the same.  The service uses its local time to look for items to process, but the items in the database use the SQL server's time, so if the two computers' times are off by a few minutes then you could run into something like this.

Re: email accounts not being checked at intervals

Hello, I'm trying OnTime Web UI on a trial account. I'm having exactly the same problem. I adjusted the email check interval to 2 minutes but it doesn't receive anything even after 30 minuets. It only receives them if I manually go into mail setting and press check emails.

    thanks

Re: email accounts not being checked at intervals

    Hello Farshad,

Have you installed and started the OnTime Email Services yet? Can you verify that they're running successfully on your web server?

Do you have any errors in your exception viewer("Help>Exception Viewer")? If so, paste the details here in a reply, and perhaps we'll have some more information about the issue.

Re: email accounts not being checked at intervals

    hi,

I'm evaluating the a trial hosted account.  Now I discovered the OnTime Hosted Dashboard and from there I activated the  OnTime POP3 Service . However, I still can't receive emails. The other things is that if I manually force it to check emails it looks like it has downloaded them but the received emails don't go to the according project features. It seems that the downloaded emails are lost.

Re: email accounts not being checked at intervals

    Hello Farshad,

So your emails are configured to create new Features in OnTime? Are you able to see any Features at the 'All Project' level?

If not, you probably have a filter applied that is filtering out the new Features, or you may have to clear the search field and refresh the main grid.
