    Adding/Removing fields from Customer Portal
My company has just begun creating the Customer Portal. In order to make it less confusing for our customers, we are only allowing them to view and edit Incidents. Defects and Features has been completely turned off. What I was wondering was if there was a way to completely remove such fields as "Status" and "Severity" from being viewed by the customers. We only want to make relevant fields available for them to see and be able to edit. So far I have not been able to find a way to removing these fields from Incidents on the Customer Portal. I am using OnTime 2008. Thank you for your help.

    Hello,

You can customize the fields your customers see by using Field Templates. You can create field templates that display only the fields you want (Tools -> Manage -> Field Templates), then assign those to the projects that your customers will use in customer portal.

does that completely remove the field or just hide it in customer portal?

Unfortunatley that completely removes the fields, it would be great if we could limit the fields in the customer portal without effecting the web client.  Most of the fields are required for the developers but not the end users.

    Hello everyone,

Actually, you can apply different field templates for use internally in the Windows/Web client, or for use in the Customer Portal. That way you can still make fields available internally to your Users, while restricting fields to your Customers.

To apply a template to the Portal, edit a Project and go to the 'Customer Portal Settings' section on the left-hand side. You'll see you can apply a different template for each item type, and for adding/editing/viewing items.

Let me know if you have any further questions.
