Linking a logged in Customer portal user's company name to a custom field in Ontime.

    Linking a logged in Customer portal user's company name to a custom field in Ontime.

    We are currently using version 8.0.2.7604. I wasn't able to find this is the forums, so if it has been discussed point me to the right area.

    We have been wanting to link a logged in Customer portal user's company name from the customer portal to a custom field we created for customers since we started using ontime.  Currently when a customer creates a defect we must manually set this field.

    For example, when a customer logs into the portal and fills in a defect,  it fills out their name on the customer portal tab and afterwards it should automatically set the customer company name.  I was hoping with the latest version of Ontime we would be able to do this, but I have tried and couldnt seem to get it to work properly. So if this is possible perhaps you can tell me the steps or a possible workaround.  If not I can log it as a feature.

    This is not currently possible in OnTime.  One option is to create a SQL trigger in the database to automatically set that value, but just keep in mind that altering the database could interfere with the upgrade process at some point in the future.

    I had thought of doing this before, but was a little hesitant because of possible future problems as you stated.  Although, I dont think this will cause too many problems on the database side(I will just have to remember to remove my trigger on upgrade), so I think I will go this route. 

    Really this is something that should be done in the software, perhaps in the future.
