    Pop3 Email automated logging problems.

    Hi,

I've got a problem with the 2007 suite of software (have not yet upgraded) in that the ontime services in 2007 is unable to retrieve Pop3 email from the accounts I've set up. The error I am receiving is thus :-

    25/04/2008 15:28:55: Checking server serverx.crystal.local
    25/04/2008 15:28:55: Connecting...
    25/04/2008 15:28:55: Disconnecting...
    25/04/2008 15:28:55: Disconnected.
25/04/2008 15:28:55: Error - An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine
    25/04/2008 15:28:55: Finished checking server serverx.crystal.local...

Along with the exception details that I've seen asked for in various other threads :-

    Exception Details
Id: 10364 Type: SocketException Source: aspNetPOP3
    Target: Void Connect(System.String, System.String, System.String) Date: 25/04/2008 15:28
Message: An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine
Stack Trace: at aspNetPOP3.POP3.Connect(String username, String password, String server)
    at aspNetPOP3.POP3.Connect()
    at Axosoft.OnTime.MailChecker.POP3Checker.ProcessAccount(MailAccount account)
Additional Info: Account Id -- 4
    Server -- crystal3.crystal.local
    ExceptionManager.MachineName -- serverx
    ExceptionManager.TimeStamp -- 25/04/2008 15:28:55
    ExceptionManager.FullName -- Axosoft.Common.ExceptionManagement, Version=7.0.2.7191, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=21e2e88ee444275a

    ExceptionManager.ThreadIdentity -- 58
    ExceptionManager.WindowsIdentity -- NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE

Can you advise why this is not working in the 2007 version of OnTime (Build 7.0.2.7191) yet it is working in the 2006 version (Build 6.1.2.6397) we are running for a very minor task (infrastructure support task requests)

I can't see how it could be anything other than OnTime causing a fault if I am able to retrieve Pop3 messages into one OnTime 2006 database and Outlook etc... but can't in the 2007 version.

    Thanks,

Do you have any virus protection software that you have to tell it to allow OnTime to do any network operations?

Only Trend Anti Virus but I unloaded the client from the server and still no joy. It is also the central server for Trend, but I can't see why one would work and the other wouldn't. Any ideas?

    Thanks.

Does it work if you do a manual check from inside OnTime?  Are the OnTime 2006 services running on the same machine or a different one?

I've seen this type of error (connection aborted or  closed) either because a virus protection/firewall software is closing the connection because it's unauthorized, or because the server refuses the connection because of IP restrictions.

Re: Pop3 Email automated logging problems.

    Hi,

Yes - we figured that one yesterday, it does download the messages from within the OnTime 2007 client.

I've tried the services installer on several machines, including the one where the 2006 client was loaded, but still no joy. I might try it again and see what happens. Don't think it's a firewall issue as I dont have this enabled on the servers and the 2006 pop3 service collector works fine - as does the 2007 client mentioned above. Any other thoughts are appreciated.

We may get away with using it within the client for the time being due to the process they will be sent, but would prefer the automated client.

    Thanks,

Re: Pop3 Email automated logging problems.

    Hi,

We've investigated this some more and have resolved the issue by setting the service to run under a domain account. I was sure I had done this before, but apparently not.

Thanks for the ideas and feedback.
