Database upgrade fails - upgrade from 7.1 to 8.1

    Greetings,

    I have a upgrade problem :(

When I try to upgrade my database (db version 7120) to the new Ontime 8.1 the upgrade fails with the error:

There was an error upgrading the database. The changes have been rolled back.
Insert Error: Column name or number of supplied values does not match table definition

     Help :)

    Best regards

Re: Database upgrade fails - upgrade from 7.1 to 8.1

Would it be possible for you to send us a backup of your 7.1.2 database?

A possible workaround to this problem might be to first try upgrading to 8.0 and then to 8.1.  But I'm not sure where the problem is, it could be in the 7.x to 8.0 upgrade in which case you'd run into the same issue. (OnTime does incremental upgrades internally, so the 8.1 upgrade actually runs the 8.0 upgrade first, then the 8.0 to 8.1 upgrade).

    Hi Dan,

I did actually try to upgrade to 8.0 - same problem :(

Our Ontime db is >5GB - so I would need a ftp site for uploading :)

If you back it up and zip it you might be able to get it to under 1GB.  If so, you can use www.transferbigfiles.com to send us the backup.

    Hi Dan,

Unfortuantly the DB is just above 2GB zip'ed, but I can place it on a UN/PW protected FTP if this is any help :)

That would be great if you could do that.  Just email support with the info and mention that it's for Dan.  Thanks.

Re: Database upgrade fails - upgrade from 7.1 to 8.1

Thanks for sending us your database.  It looks like you are using replication on that database as every table in it has an extra column, rowguid.  This extra column is causing the upgrade problem for one particular script that is trying to insert some rows in the FieldTemplateDetails table.  While we don't really support scenarios like this because the database was modified outside of our control, we do try to make it work if possible, and I was able to work around the issue and fix this particular problem.  The fix will be available in the next release, however I can't guarantee that you won't run into similar issues in the future.

For now, if you don't want to wait till the next release, I'm not sure if it's possible for you to turn off replication while you do the upgrade?  I don't know if turning off replication removes those extra columns or not.

    Hi Dan,

Thanks. I removed the replication (was not used in any case), but I still couldn't run the opdate.

So I manually removed the rowguid (and the related indexes) - and bingo :)

Now - you can "quote me happy" - thanks for the great support :)
