'Enforce workflow step...' option presents awkward problem...

When I select "Enforce workflow step selection for items" for my project settings, it gives me two sub-selections: "Place new items into:", and "Items moved into project are placed into:".

The problem I have is, I want to enforce a workflow step when a new item is created, but I *don't* want to change the workflow step when an item is moved into a new project, i.e. I just want it to keep its current workflow step when moved.  Unfortunately I ran into this issue today when I had to create sub-projects and move some defects into them; it re-set all of their workflow steps to "Bug Found=>Needs Verification".

There should be an option in the "Items moved into project are placed into:" list, called "Retain current workflow step" or something like that.

Is there another way to do this that I might have overlooked?  Do I have to keep temporarily de-selecting the "Enforce workflow step..." option for  projects before moving defects into them?

RE: 'Enforce workflow step...' option presents awkward problem...

The following request has been submitted to our customer feedback section of OnTime as a possible feature enhancement in the upcoming future releases of the application.

The only way to work around this scenario would be to uncheck the option to "Enforce workflow step selection for items" which will keep the existing workflow step with the item that is moved to the new project.

    Thank you,

Can we have an update on this please? We have the same problem, where users are creating workflow items in a 'holding' area as we populate the project trees. When we create the required target project and move the item the workflow gets reset.

    Hello Everyone,

There is still currently no way to both enforce that a workflow step is selected and also allow the item to retain it's current workflow step.

As posted earlier, this was submitted as a possible feature enhancement for consideration in upcoming releases of OnTime. I don't believe it was implemented in the latest release, but that doesn't mean that it won't be considered in other future releases.

I set default settings in "All Projects".  There, I've set some Workflow Settings: (for defects)

    select "Use selected workflow steeings"

    set "Workflow" to [workflow]

check "Enforce workflow step selection for items"

check "Restrict new items to selected workflow step"

set "Place new items into" [step]

set "Items moved into project are placed into" [step]

check "Keep moved items in workflow step if using same workflow"

These steps kept the workflow step as I moved the defect between projects.  I presume it will remain the same for items, features, etc.
