I was once very excited when I found and read about OnTime. I kept bugging my manager to take a look at it, along with several other options, so that we could evaluate and select a tool that meets our needs.
I have tried several times over the last few months, when time permitted, to install OnTime on my laptop, which is running WinXP. The requirements for installation included a SQL Server and .Net. I already had .Net installed so I moved on to the next requirement SQL Server.
I followed the OnTime install directions and downloaded SQLServer Express Edition. There were several version of Express Edition so I first choose the smaller distribution as I had no clue which version to use. I must mention at this point that I have never used SQL Server and I am not a Windows Developer. After installing SQL Server I tried to use OnTime to create a new database without success. I assumed I was not installing SQL Server correctly so I spent a lot of time trying to get up to speed on it but I never could get it working. I also tried uninstalling and using a different version of SQL Server Express Edition but that failed as well. I have no idea what I am doing wrong.
Do you have any kind of instructions available explaining how to install SQL Server so that I can get OnTime working? At this point I am ready to give up trying to evaluate OnTime as I have wasted more than enough time trying to install it.
