Hi,

I have setup the OnTime2006 Windows product using SQL Server Authetication on the server and it works perfectly.

Now I try to install OnTime2006 Windows on client computer & connect to an existing database that I've already set up on the server. But when I select "Test Connection", I get the error "Failed connecting to database".

For SQL server name I use:

IP address\SQLEXPRESS or computer name\SQLEXPRESS

I've enabled local and remote access on the SQL server.

I am doing this setup within corporate (intranet).

Does anybody know how to solve this problem?

How do I make sure the local SQL port #1433 is not being block?

Should I turn off windows firewall?

I would turn off any firewall or antivirus software that you may have on the local workstation. Have you tried sending a PING command to the SQL server from that particular workstation?

On the SQL Express server using the SQL Server 2005 surface area configuration tool under "Database Engine" > "Remote connections", verify that "Local and Remote connection" option is enabled to allow "Both TCP/IP and named pipes". Make sure to restart the SQL service if you make any changes.

I have the same issue, I have followed your advise, turned off the firewall, Went to the "SQL Server 2005 surface area configuration tool" and did that as well.... No change for me, is there any way to test to see if I can connect on the specific port for SQLExpress?? Just curious, i'd like to get mine working as well :) :)

Each SQL server instance by default is set up to use port 1433 for SQL communication thought the network. You can download the SQL Management Studio Express from Microsoft and go into the properties of your SQL express instance to make sure that the necessary configuration settings are in place. When connecting to the SQL Express or SQL 2005 servers, be sure to specify the proper SQL instance. Example: ServerName\SQLExpress or ServerName\SQL2005.
