    Custom Report Problems

    Hi,

I'm having problems with my custom reports.

If I set the report settings to use a paper size of either A4 or Letter, the web client displays the following error when I attempt to print:

Printer does not support Letter papersize. Please use PaperKind.Custom in your PageSettings or specify a papersize supported by the current printer

If I change it from A4 or Letter to a custom size then I get the following error:

Failed to open the Default printer is not set. printer, System error number: 1801

It also no longer works in the Windows client, giving the error:

Failed to open the \\PrinterName, System error number: 5

This is becoming quite a pain. The custom reports I had working with 2006 no longer work in 2007. It does seem to be a problem with the report settings dialog. I can change the reports any way I like and they work fine as long as I don't touch that option dialog.

Does anyone have any idea what to do?

    Thanks,

    Richard.

    Re: Custom Report Problems

    Hi,

We are also getting the "Failed to open the \\printer, System error number: 5" error when attempting to view a custom report.  What is causing this error?  The workaround at this time is change the default printer to an "Adobe PDF".

What is the reason for this error?

    Thanks.

    Re: Custom Report Problems

We have not been able to determine the root cause to this problem in the OnTime 2007 windows client with not being able to print reports. Although I did resolve this same exact problem for another user that was experiencing this issue by assigning a default printer on the local workstation. The user did not have any default printers installed on the local machine at the time of the error. After installing a default printer the user did no get this error message anymore.

    Thank you,

    Re: Custom Report Problems

    Hi,

We have default printers set on each of the client PCs. So it can't be that.

     Thanks,

     Richard.

I have the exact same problem. Has anyone found a solution?

    Re: Custom Report Problems

    Hello Jeff,

I believe the solution would be to select a default printer on your web server. When OnTime generates a PDF report from the Web client, it requires simply that a default printer be selected on the server, as opposed to the local machine.

Try that and let me know if it resolves your issue.

    That was the problem.

    Re: Custom Report Problems

    Hi,

I've tried adding a default printer to the web server, but this still hasn't corrected the problem for me.

    To confirm our current setup:

    • It only occurs with the web version, not the Windows client.
    • Default printers added to the client PCs and the web server.
    • The printer is the same network printer on both the clients and server.
    • The printer is set to A4
    • This only occurs with custom reports.
    • If I attempt to edit the Report Settings->Paper Size, when I reopen the report settings it loses the setting I previously entered (I have no idea if they are accepted or not).
    • It only keeps the paper settings when I enter it as a custom paper size.

If I set the page size to A4, I get the following error: "Printer does not support A4 papersize. Please use PaperKind.Custom in your PageSettings or specify a papersize supported by the current printer"

If I set the page size to A4 (11.7 x 8.3) using custom I get the following error: "Failed to open the Default printer is not set. printer, System error number: 1801"

If you need any more information, please ask.

    Regards,

    Richard.

    Re: Custom Report Problems

    Hello Richard,

Besides the post you just made, I notice that the last time you posted about this issue was back in April. Which version of OnTime are you currently on? If you're still on one of the older versions of OnTime 2007, that may effect this resolution.

Let me know which version you're on, and we'll decide on the best way to approach this issue based on that.

    Hi Tom,

We are currently using version 7.1.2.7389 for the both the web server and windows clients. I check regularly for upgrades and try to keep it up to date.

    Thanks,

    Richard.

    Re: Custom Report Problems
All we did was add the default printer on the server machine. Axosoft did it with our developer on a call. Not sure what printer they used.
