OnTime 2007 Hangs when running Defect Detail Report

I have OnTime 2007 installed on a windows 2003 server (SP1) running MS SQL 2005 with 2GB of RAM installed, running IIS v6.0, and Xeon processor 2.33 GHZ.  Currently, only 50 defects have been entered into the DB so far - no features or defects.

When running the 'Defect Details' report, my client hangs and the server performance is terrible - no one can do anything while it is running.  I've yet to get it to run successfully.  I have had to disable the ability to run that report for the users so that the system doesn't crash during the day.  We are currently evaluating the product (hence only a small number of defects entered).  Is this a known issue or a problem with my particular installation?

I have found the following post, but this isn't a reasonable 'solution' or workaround:

    http://community.axosoft.com/forums/thread/10604.aspx

    The solution says:

"The CPU spike that is happening when attempting to run the defects detail report is related to the content that has been entered in the individual defects under the large text fields such as Description, Notes and Reproduction Steps. Copied HTML content and text from other applications such as Microsoft Word or Microsoft Outlook tend to generate this problem in the OnTime application. If you are able to find a single defect in the list that is causing this problem for you, try copying the current information that you have in the defect and paste it into Notepad. Once you have the necessary items pasted in Notepad, you can copy this text back into the defect which should resolve this problem for you."

I might be able to do this for 50 defects, but I can't afford to go through each defect each time I want to run this report across multiple concurrent projects.

Would love to know if there is some work being done with this or if there is a something else that can be done so that we can use this report.

    Thank you..

    Ross

    Hi Ross,

We plan on upgrading our report components in a future build which should help the slowness.

In the meantime another solution is under user options uncheck 'print item details as html' for future items.

Can you send us your database to make sure you are having the same result as described per dragan?

Please send db through http://www.transferbigfiles.com/Default.aspx and to arasha@axosoft.com.

I will keep you posted on this matter

    Thanks,

    Arash

    Arash...

Changing the user option setting did the trick.

Is there a way to set that for all users somewhere so that they cannot print in that manner and make it so that they cannot change that setting?

    Thanks for your help,

    Ross

    Ross,

Currently there is no way of setting this option globally. Its a user options so it they will have to perform the same steps as you did.

    Thanks,

    Arash

Re: OnTime 2007 Hangs when running Defect Detail Report

    Arash,

I also have had the hanging problem when running Defect Detail Reports.  However, I have another problem with reports that is related.  It was reported to me that the Defect Detail Report would not print the resolution.  This was an issue for just one defect.  I narrowed it down to an invisable field in a piece of text cut and pasted from MS Word.  When I unchecked the 'print item details as html'  option it corrected the problem.  However, of course I lose all of my formatting.  If having the snipet of text would help you with your future plans, I'd be happy to send it.

Re: OnTime 2007 Hangs when running Defect Detail Report

We are using the 2007 webHosted version and can only see Reports ->Defect Reports ->Defect Details when in the Admin account.

No matter what Manage Security Roles I select Reports-> All Defects or just Defect Details I cannot get this to appear for any user profile.

This Details selection works just fine in Featues and Tasks, so why does it not work for me in Defects !

    Hello,

Would you mind sending your Admin login information to me at support@axosoft.com so I can log into your Hosted account and take a look for myself?

Re: OnTime 2007 Hangs when running Defect Detail Report
    Hello Sanat,

Thank you for sending me the URL and the logins. I've found the cause of your problem.

The reason the 'Defect Details' report doesn't show up for your other users is because you unchecked the 'Shortcut is Public' option in the report shortcut. Only "Public" report shortcuts can be seen by all users. I've re-checked this option for you, but I still want to explain where this option is so you'll understand what I'm refering to.

From within OnTime, go to "Reports>Manage Reports". Select 'Defects Reports', and then select the 'Defect Details' report. You'll then see the shortcut for that report appear below, and you can select and edit the 'Defect Details' shortcut. From the 'Edit Report Shortcut' window you'll see the Shortcut name field, and just below that you'll see a checkbox option labeled 'Shortcut is Public'. In order for other users to see that report, this option must be enabled.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Thank you,
