Web Services User - Importing MS Project

We are working with the code that was in the SDK and importing data from MS Project to OnTime into the Task Area. The problem we are having is that it is being imported as the Administrator. We need to find out how we identify a user to import the tasks against.

The tasks are assign to different resources but I need to have them configured so that the project manager is the originator and even though they are assign to other resources it shows up in his task list as the originator. At the moment the originator is the Administrator.

I think you should be able to set the “CreatedByID” value to the proper user instead of administrator and that should do the trick as far as I can tell. To locate the user ID’s you can look at the “Users” table under the “UserId” column in the OnTime database which will give you the correct ID for the desired user in the database.

    Hello Marc,

I am planning to do the exact same thing in the near future because OnTime does not feature any "planning" activities. Are you planning bidirectional import/export facilities or just from MS Project into the OnTime tasks ? Any plans to publish your work ? How are you planning to solve the subtask issues (well OnTime not supporting them that is) ?

    Regards,

    Filip

    HI,

Yes we are looking to import and export. At the moment we are just looking to import and would be happy to put the code up. the only thing is we have constructed the form to reflect our processes and some the code will not be relavant to anyone due to that strucutre.

Once this has been put into place then we will be working on the export. We have already discussed how we would address this but until we actually do it, it is just theory.

In the Web.config file of the OnTime SDK, there is an entry for 'WebServiceUser', which defaults to 1 (Administrator).  This is the ID of the user that all items are created as, and you can change it to any other user in your database.
