I have created a custom field called Target Date.  This is our estimated completion date that our Project Managers have set for our Defect/Feature which is slightly different than our Due Date.

I am trying to build a filter that will show those items that would be coming up in the next two weeks, or month.  

If I choose the "Is Within" "This Week" in the filter options, does that include the next 7 days? or does it mean this calander week?  Same question for this month, If its currently August, would it only bring back items in august? or would items come back from now to 30 days in the future?

To mee it seems there should be another option in the second set.  Currently, there is "within last" and "older than".  It seems there should be an option for "within the next"?

 Is there a way to setup a filter on a date field that will look for items up to X number of days in the future?

With OnTime filters, 'This Week' signifies the current calendar week. For instance, if I ran a filter today using 'This Week', I'll get results from Sunday the 19th till Saturday the 25th. "This Month" works the same way- it'll pull data from the current month, not the next 30 days.

There is currently no way to configure a filter within OnTime that can look dynamically at future dates. There is a way, which I suspect you've already seen,  that you can statically set two dates to filter for- but I can see how that wouldn't work for what you need.

I agree that it seems logical to include a "within the next.." option along with the other 2 options. I suggest that you submit the idea as a feature request to our development team for consideration in future versions of OnTime.

Thank you for the info on how the "This Week" and "This Month" features work. The two date functionality works, but changing the dates regularly isn't easy.
