Is there a way to make certain fields be required based on the current workflow step or status?  For example, I don't want to 'Close' a defect if the 'Resolution' field is not filled in.  Or, similarly, I don't want to close a defect if the 'Date Fixed' field is not filled in.  However, neither of those two fields can be filled in on the first 'Save' when a defect is opened.

Currently using version 7.0.2.7191 and going to be upgrading to 7.1.2 tomorrow.

You can make certain fields required by designating them so in a Field Template. You can edit your templates by going to "Tools>Field Templates", and selecting the appropriate template. Simply check mark the check box under the 'Required' column next to the field or fields you want to make required. When that Field Template is applied while editing, the user will be required to enter in a value for any required fields. The templates can be applied at the Project level, or at the Workflow Step level.

It sounds like you need to utilize the Workflow functionality of OnTime. Are you familiar with Workflow or Workflow steps? You can create a process and configure it in OnTime, where at each step you may require different information before the item can progress through your system and be closed.
