Defect-Name filed is to short for mee
Is it any way to make it longer? Lest say up to 250 Characters?

No, you cannot modify the length of the Name field.  But you can always create a custom text field of the right length and use that instead of the name by creating a field template.

    Hello Tomasz,

There is no way within OnTime 2007 to change the length of the Name fields, as they are built-in fields and cannot be altered.

As an alternative, you can create another custom text field and set it's length to up to 400 characters. You could then use this text field as your primary Name field instead of the built-in Name field.

If you'd like to have the ability to alter the built-in fields I suggest submitting the idea to our development team as a Feature Request in our Customer Portal. The next time our team is planning another version of OnTime they'll review and consider your idea.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

    Thank you,

Tomasz, I do not work for Axosoft, so don't blame them if this doesn't work... What happens if you simply extend the length of the defect name field in the database? I did this very thing with the incident number field when it first came out and the entire system continued to work just fine.

Thank you for all your replies. Unfortunately modifying filed width on a SQL Server side do nothing. It seems that client control the width on its own.

Yes, the sizes of the defect fields (where aplicable) are specified in the Fields table.  You can try modifying the size of the Name field for defects, but it may change the way it looks on the window/page (I believe fields of size over 100 will be rendered as multi-line).

Do note, however, that modifying the sizes of the columns in existing tables is not recommended as it may break other things in the application, and in the future may cause problems upgrading.
