    Alerts for OnTime Version 8.0.1.7558

I can't get any project alerts to work. Global e-mail notifications work fine, but when I remove the global notifications and try to add my own custom alerts; I never see one. I have created "Change Field Value" alerts for all item types. For each one, I have selected to send the alert whether the item is new or being changed. I have added that it send it to the built-in recipients: [Assigned To], [Created By], [Last Updated By] and [Requested/Reported By] as well as my user account. I have several fields set to trigger th alert: status, priority, due date, etc. I have confirmed that in my multiple attempts to send an alert, one of the triggering fields is indeed changing. The Alert Notification service is running. I have attempted to stop/restart to ensure the service wasn't hung.

I am sure it is something simple as I am fairly new to the application, but can someone help me out? As always, your time is appreicated.

    Regards,

    Jason

    Hello Jason,

The one part of your description that raises a flag for me is when you explain that you have "several fields set to trigger the alert: status, priority, due date, etc." Are all of the triggers part of the same Alert, or have you configured multiple Alerts?

If all the trigger conditions are listed in the same Alert, they are treated as 'AND' conditions, whereas each condition must be met in order for the Alert to be triggered. Just changing one of the fields won't trigger the Alert, all triggers must be met for the Alert to fire.

So in your case, if you have "Status changes to <value>" AND "Priority changes to <value>" AND "Due Date is in <value>" all within the same Alert, then the Alert won't be triggered unless all 3 conditions are met. It sounds like you may need to configure separate Alerts for each of those triggers if you want them to fire independently.

If you do have multiple Alerts configured- one for each trigger- and none of them are firing, let me know and we can explore this further.

    Mr. Harder,

You hit the nail on the head...I didn't know they were AND conditions. So, I will customize one for a new item and have specific ones for changed items. I don't want 5 alerts to be sent on a new item!

    Now, I have another question...

Is there no global Alert Template? I have about 100 projects that are all going to use the same Alerts. Do I have to create the project alerts on every single one of them?

As always, your time is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Jason

    Hello Jason,

Alerts should inherit downward through your project structure. You should be able to configure your Alerts at the 'All Project' level, and it should effect all items in all sub-projects.

Re: Alerts for OnTime Version 8.0.1.7558

Well, that's what I thought and what I was hoping. But, no alerts are sent when I add them to the All Projects or even a parent project. If I add the same exact alert to the project itself, all alerts are sent as expected.

I have double-checked the project settings, and I see where it can inherit the field templates from.

Re: Alerts for OnTime Version 8.0.1.7558

    Hello Jason,

I just spoke with my developers about this, and said they'll have to take a closer look at the code to see if that is a bug, or if the Alerts(unlike Notification) may have been designed differently. In any case, in the meantime I'm sorry to say you'll have to create those Alerts for each project- or use Notifications which definitely do inherit down.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, and thanks for bringing that to our attention.
