1. Is there a way to assign/restrict access for a user to a particular project the way it is done in customer portal?

2. Is there a way to receive all email notifications (new, changed, deleted) for a particular project?

Just to be clear on 2. I want one of my users to only get email notifications for one or two projects

1. Yes, you can set up security roles (Tools -> Manage -> Security Roles) that restrict access to only certain projects, and then assign the security roles to the users (Tools -> Manage -> Users).

2. Yes, you can set up notifications at the project level, so the users will only get notifications for those projects (on the Project Wiki tab there's a details section for Notifications).
