I am wondering, however, why an item is being restricted to one product/release/milestone since defects (and features) could very well be propagated across releases. My shop has several live lines (versions) going at any given time and we address defects in them all. How would we handle that?

Hi Tom,

You will need to use the "copy to" feature to have the same item across multiple releases. Using this function will also create item relations.

The only issue there is that I'll get different item numbers on my release reports. Copying items generates new item ID's and my clients will be looking for the ID of their interest, not a new one related back.

Any ideas?
